Therese is a single parent and the warm-hearted operator of a newsstand, which mainly attracts insolvent customers. She might not have much money, but she is happy all the same – until unforeseen debts start hitting her from all sides and her lease is revoked. And now of all times, her daughter Nadine needs money for a school trip. With a guilty conscience, but bolstered by her girlfriend Gundi, she desperately turns to crime: as a marriage swindler.
Several gentlemen fall for her advert in the papers and send money to the pretty “nurse“ for her travel expenses. Among those duped is farmer Peter Redl, who immediately falls in love with Therese. Naively hoping that the object of his affection has merely missed the train, he sets out to find her… And his initial disappointment soon turns into something else…
